The Locker Room

The Locker Room is a set of 8 rooms, totaling 1030 square feet. Located beneath a church, this space was abandoned along with the gym in the 1970s. From October 2018 through April 2019, the space was restored and is now available for video shoots, photo shoots, and more.

The Locker Room is set-designed, surreal, slightly derelict, and a little delicate.

Most of the floors are concrete. The bathroom and shower room are tiled. There's exposed piping, wood beams, and abundant unique materials and textures.

Climate

During the winter, two 4800W heaters keep our rooms warm and cozy.

During the summer, a 12000 BTU Fujitsu air conditioner keeps the Locker Room cool. This same unit also provides heat during the winter.

Electricity

There are newly installed power outlets in every room, each with two three-prong 110V sockets.

Lighting

The Locker Room lets in very little daylight. This allows photo and video work to have total control over the lighting.

The rooms are equipped with a total of 15 Phillips Hue bulbs, which can be modified to any color or warm or cool white light, along with a range of brightness levels. The space is provided at our default colors in the photos, and for an additional fee, you may rent a tablet which controls the bulb settings. You're also welcome to rent our additional lighting gear if you'd like a brightness that goes beyond the capability of the Phillips bulbs.

WIFI and phone

The Locker Room is equipped with a powerful WIFI network.

Amenities

The Locker Room has a number of tables of various sizes available to renters. A number of chairs are spread out throughout the rooms, as pictured. Please inquire if you require a specific amount of chairs.

Renters have access to a restroom with sinks.

Capacity

The Locker Room has a maximum capacity of 20 people.

Pre-existing set design

Please be careful with our set and props. Some items, like the mannequins and the waiting room desks, can be moved without too much trouble. Many of the other decorations, such as the vines and the shrine, are embedded in the room and cannot be taken down or moved.

No wheelchair access

We regret that at this time, our space does not offer wheelchair access. We’ve spent the last year restoring this basement from the 1800s, but we are not yet at the point where we can afford to build ramps or elevators. With the help of your rentals, our budget will get there. Thank you for your patience.

Safe storage for renters

Renters are able to safely store their equipment in The Locker Room overnight.

Hours

Renters are able to be in Gymnopedie from 24 hours a day except for Sundays, when the space is closed between 7am and 3:30pm.

Restrictions

Gymnopedie is located in the basement of a church. We are grateful to our hosts, and we aim to keep them happy and comfortable with all our rentals. As part of our agreement that allows us to share the space with you, we have promised to not host loud concerts, dance parties, or parties of any sort. We prohibit the smoking of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and marijuana inside the property. We are cautious when it comes to booking ticketed events to the public, as well as events that include alcohol. Events where small amounts of free alcohol are given to guests will be considered. The sale of alcohol in our venue is illegal and we do not allow it.
